EverY TootsiE PoP HaS a TootsiE RoLL aT ItS CenteR! (7/22/10)

I'm not the most creative person in the world, but I was just thinking about what sets me apart from other people. It got me to thinking about what makes me unique; what makes me, "me."

Me (Stephanie Ann Merris):

.) I have the same middle name as my Mom and both of my sisters.
.) I have a bone disease in my leg called Neurofibromatosis.
.) When I was a little girl (1 or younger), I had a birth mark on my cheek that was in the shape of a heart.
.) When I was three, I used to stand in a grate that was in my family's kitchen. I loved to take the top of it out and stand inside it. I don't know why I got so much amusement out of such a simple thing, lol. Anyway, one night at dinner, I stood inside it (as I usually did) and I think on this particular night, I jumped in it a little bit. I fell through it and landed in the room that was below the kitchen (my Dad's work office). I distinctly remember my family running down the stairs and asking me if I was okay (they were especially worried about the leg that I have a bone disease in). I brushed ceiling tile off of my head, looked at them, and replied, "I'm okay." ;-)
.) I was an acrobat during my early childhood years despite the fact that I had a bone disease in my leg. This disease never seemed to stop me from almost giving people heart attacks as I climbed onto the counters, jumped off of the refrigerator, walked on the banister like it was a balance beam, etc. You name it- I most likely did it. In the house that I grew up in during my younger years, I did a foolish thing. Hmmm... can you imagine me doing something foolish?!? Haha! The people that know me well can, I'm sure. We had a banister in this house that was at the top of a flight of stairs and if you fell off of this banister, you would easily fall many feet before landing onto the steps below it. I climbed the gate that was next to the banister and decided that it would be fun to see what it felt like to hang from it on this day. As I was hanging from it and as my fingers began to slip, my mom faintly saw my two small hands slipping down and she about lost it! She saved me, thank goodness! I wish I could say that this instance was the only one that took place in my life, which involved me hanging from a banister, but I would be lying if I said so. On another occasion, when my mom was pregnant with my youngest sister, Emi- I climbed the gate that was next to the banister and somehow ended up hanging from it once again. My uncle saved me from this near-death experience this time around due to my mom being very pregnant! He had a look of panic on his face, which I will never forget. Thank-you Mom and Uncle Eric- you saved my life those many years ago... twice. ;-)
.) When I was three, I almost died of double-lung pneumonia.
.) When I was little, I ended up scraping my knees often (never deliberately of course). I can remember my mom putting bactine on them, which stung like a mother! I also remember a time that my Uncle Eric carried my crying self into the church after I fell off of a curb and scraped my knees.
.) When I was about four, I saw a razor that a friend of my mom's (who was staying in our house at the time) left on the edge of our bathtub. I decided that I would be like a big girl and shave my leg on one particular day. Let's just say that this situation didn't end well! I shaved my leg, but caused it to bleed very badly. I covered it with my favorite blanket and tried to keep my cool and pretend like nothing had happened during lunch time, as I didn't want my mom to know what I had done, lol. Anyway, I finally told her because it wouldn't stop bleeding and after several calls into the hospital, it finally stopped bleeding.
.) Around the time that I was two or three, I had a white dress with pink polka dots on it. This dress was my ABSOLUTE favorite thing in the entire world. I wore it every single day and I never got sick of it! My mom has told me a story about a day that she decided she would make me wear something else by hiding my dress. She said that on this day, I told her I wanted my dress and ran into my room to search for it not long after. When I went into my room, she said that it got very quiet. By the time that she came to me and opened my door, she discovered that I had rooted out all of my closet and drawers. The room was a complete mess! When I said, "I want my dress," in my slightly angelic, but mostly devilish voice, she decided that she would give it to me and save herself from ever having to experience something like that again. Haha! I still have this dress today. Perhaps, I will post a picture of it on here.
.) I loved wearing tutus as a child. I loved dancing around the house in them/dressing up.
.) When I was in 1st grade, I wore a new dress that I ADORED to a music concert our school held on one particular evening. At the time, I had a crush on a boy in my class named Will McBee. He came up to me at the conclusion of the concert and complimented me on my dress. He told me that I looked beautiful and proceeded to give me ice-cream money, as the next day (Friday) was ice-cream day at school. I look back on that time with fondness. What a great memory!!
.) I played a mean game of Pizza Pizza Daddio in music class during elementary school. I also enjoyed chasing boys/being chased by boys at Recess. Haha! What kid didn't?!
.) When I was in 1st or 2nd grade, I decided it would be fun to roll down a hill with some of my friends for the duration of recess. I had a blast doing it and I ended up losing a barrette in the process. I don't think I ever told my mom the truth about what caused me to lose that barrette, lol.
.) Home videos will vouch and prove that I did quite the dance/shimmy to the song, "Ice Ice Baby" back in the day. It cracks me up- I love how when you are a kid, you have no inhibitions!
.) I became a hair stylist at the age of four when I cut my little sister, Jenni's hair. My mom and dad were out that night and my mom distinctly remembers coming into the house that night and following a trail of hair. This trail was found in my room and ultimately led to a bald patch on Jenni's head. Poor Jenni!
.) When I was a kid, I loved holding Japanese beetles, daddy long leggers, crickets, etc.! I still like Japanese beetles today, but I CAN'T believe that I ever held DADDY LONG LEGGERS! Ahhh! The mere thought makes my skin crawl! I HATE spiders!
.) The book entitled, "Twilight" was actually written about me. I used to bite people when I was very young (2-3 years old). It's not something I'm proud of- I don't remember doing it- I only remember hearing my mom and older siblings tell me that I did it. Anyway, I guess the vampire thing was appealing to me at a young age. Haha! It's not appealing to me now! Don't worry- I don't bite!
.) My sneezes sound like coughs.
.) I hate the sound of Velcro, but I wear a leg brace that requires me to hear the sound of it on a daily basis each time I put it on/take it off.
.) I hate the smell of Lysol and when I say hate, I mean loathe! My family got the flu SO many times when I was a kid and every time that someone threw up, I smelled Lysol shortly after (obviously we tried to disinfect the germs in the house). Anyway, I actually think I have a smell aversion (much like the concept of taste aversion, which I learned about in psychology. Taste aversion is the association you make between a food and a sickness. For example, when I was in first grade, I threw up strawberries and I never liked them or ate them again after that. I associated the flu with strawberries). Anyway, I think I have smell aversion (if such a thing exists) because every time I smell Lysol, I instantly go into panic mode! The first thought that races through my mind is: someone has the flu! I know it's crazy, but boy is it ever true! (Note: I can bear the smell of orange scented Lysol- it is the traditional scent that really gets to me and makes me feel sick, lol).
.) My life's dream is to be in a food fight.
.) My white shirts are magnets for stains... red, yellow- you name any brightly-colored food- it somehow lands on my shirt EVERY time I'm wearing a white shirt.
.) My leg may as well be a house b/c $300,000.00+ has been spent on it.
.) I giggle when I'm nervous.
.) I can't shuffle cards in my hands.
.) I am a lip gloss junkie.
.) I love big hair (voluminous locks are where it's at).
.) If I wasn't going to be a teacher, I would pursue cosmetology.
.) 80s movies are my life. End. of. story.
.) My family and I quote movies on a daily basis (we've made a game out of it- movie clues).
.) I should have been born in the 50s.
.) Gidget is and always will be one of my favorite movies.
.) Sometimes I wish I could be in a TV sitcom like the Wonder Years.
.) I'm a huge quote person.
.) I love swimming and being in water.
.) I love sour cream, yet dislike sour cream and onion chips.
.) I love strawberry banana flavored anything.
.) I dislike swallowing pills. When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I had ear aches in the middle of the night, which required me to have to take pills. This occasion marked one of the first times in my life that I ever swallowed pills and I did well at first, but then started to panic when I thought one of the pills wouldn't go down. I can swallow pills just fine now, but a big part of me (i.e. the 2nd grader who panicked) never got over the trauma! Haha!
.) I am incapable of backing my car into a parking space.
.) Polka dots complete me. Yeah, we're talking about some Jerry McGuire shiz right hurr!
.) I ALWAYS leave my left over boxes at restaurants! I can never remember to bring them home with me and I inadvertently always end up leaving a little treat for my waiter. I seriously need help!
.) I saved the best for last!!!! Many people do not know that Matthew Gray Gubler= my future husband.
