So much has happened over the past few months and I feel the need to update the many anxious readers who are on the verge of bursting if they don't hear all the goings on in my life... SYKE! Haha! The 90s me has been dying to say that for, oh, about 20 years! Thank you for letting me get out my childish antics! I'm sure I'm one of the only (if not the only) person who will gaze my eyes in this bloggy blog's direction. :-)
Here's a recap of where I've been and what I've been doing:
- I attended Common Core trainings in June for literacy and math. They were insightful. Now it's time to put the things I learned into practice. Wish me luck!
- I went home to PA and had a blast seeing my fambam! I also got to take a road trip to OH to visit my older bro., his wife, and their son. The day before the road trip, I found out they're having twinners in January! So exciting!
- I came back to good old UT and started teaching Jump Start to incoming 1st graders at my school in July. Jump Start is like summer school, but it's held about a month before school starts. Students are able to learn/review important skills in it, which will ideally, help them to be more successful in the grade level they're moving up to.
- I tried to make dental moldings of my mouth to get custom whitening trays made and I was 50% successful. Let's just say I have to buy new molding material since I can't have a whitening tray for one part of my mouth and leave the other part helpless and alone.
- I moved to a new place and boy was that an adventure! The move took
place while I was teaching Jump Start and it was tough packing,
teaching, and keeping my sanity in tact. Thankfully, my mama came out to
UT to help my sister and me pack our things up. We only lived in our
previous place (a town house) for 3 years. No biggie. No junk to
de-clutter, no sir... not 10 DI trips worth... no way. I have to admit, I
felt very sentimental when it came time to move... after all, this was
the place I lived in when I student taught, graduated, got my official
grown up job teaching, etc. Additionally, my older brother and his wife
lived there with us when they first got married. This same brother also
graduated while living there and had the one and only nephew in our
family while in that house. My younger sister graduated while living
there and my younger brother started college while living in that house
too. You could say that some big events took place there. It really felt
more like a "home." However, it was definitely time to high tail it out
of there when we moved- our development was
becoming- let's be honest, had become ghetto to the extreme! Yeah, we're talking Vanilla Ice extreme people! Our neighbors were constantly playing their mariachi music and bass, which drove us crazy. Trash was always seen on our yard (blown onto it from other people's places) and it wasn't the typical gross trash. At one point, a feminine product was seen on our front yard. Lovely... In addition to all of these things, the people in the neighborhood decided that lighting off fireworks at 11 or 12 at night on random evenings would be a great idea. Want to hear the grand daddy, creme-de-la-creme trashy thing that happened while living there this summer? At one point, a toilet was laying out front of our place near the trash can because a certain someone thought it would be taken by the trash truck?!?! Well it was. Thank you so much land lord and stinkin' realtor guy who set off a bug bomb in the basement during the summer and didn't bother to tell us that fumes might come up from where they were into our place upstairs. Don't believe my toilet story? I'm not full of shiz, I promise! That's the toilets job! I wish I could say I was joking about it, but alas, I cannot. I guess that our place took GhettO to an all time low thanks to our landlord's realtor who decided a toilet would be perfect to place near the trashcan for the trash collectors to take.

- Moving, though awful, was a necessity. I got so used to moving every year when I was in college and that felt so unstable... I don't like moving and realized just how much I loathe it this summer. Sometimes, we've just got to do what we've got to do.
- That brings me to my next point, the move had its moments! It started off on a bad note (we won't get into that) and progressed to an even worse note when my wallet was stolen. Long story short- whoever took it, didn't steal my identity, or did they?!?! Haha! They did, however, most likely change their mind about using my cards, and thus decided to spew them all over the entrance to my neighborhood and beyond. A cop dropped off what was left of my wallet at 5 something or other in the morning after the wallet was MIA. I'll never know exactly what happened. I am happy, however, that some sort of resolution was reached.
- I officially started school on Aug. 16th (the students didn't start until the 21st). Thanks to good old J-dawwg, my classroom got really organized and decorated beautifully! I don't know what I would have done without her. See her self-portrait pictured below.
That
about covers my whereabouts these past few months. It's hard to believe
summer has almost breathed its last breath and parted ways with us. I
am definitely ready to usher in a new season filled with pumpkin spice
candles, haunted houses, not-too-hot-not-too-cold weather, crisp air,
etc. Fall- I think I've FALLen for you, you sly devil you! How about
visiting me real soon? It's a date!
I'm
counting down the days until my fall break! In the meantime, I'll keep
scrambling around in this little rat race called life. Hopefully, I'll
make it to the finish line with my brain and body still in tact. At this
point, it feels like anything is possible.
That's all folks! Keep on keepin' on!
I'd
like to leave you with a song I heard on the radio a few days ago (last
Fri. on my way home from work, actually). It is a classic and for
whatever reason, it just made me happy.
Bee Gees "Too Much Heaven"
